Meet Kameron

“Compassion, kindness, and integrity are my companions as I move throughout life. These values coupled with hard work and determination have truly helped me become who I am today.”

  • In 2016, I was struck by an article effectively breaking up with South Dakota. The author wrote of frustrations and tear-stained thoughts that resonated with many young South Dakotans as they made an exodus from our beloved state. Our young, passionate, educated citizens were leaving in droves searching for communities that better reflected their wants, needs, and futures. This short piece, in its brilliance and absurdity, spoke to my very core.

As a young person, I, too, had left this state searching for purpose, opportunity, and belonging. My vision for my life felt bigger than the four corners of this state, and I was convinced that nothing could change that.

After reading the article, a friend and I had a conversation that has stuck with me ever since. He asked a crucial question which became a significant reason for my return to South Dakota:

“If we’re not the ones to be a catalyst for change, how is South Dakota ever going to be the place we want it to be?”

    He was right.

Solutions require real people doing the work, forging ahead to provide a glimmer of hope for others. Since then, I have gained more courage and am choosing to be part of the solution, a catalyst for change.

South Dakota IS a place for purpose, opportunity, and belonging.

As your representative, I will serve with authenticity, courage, and empathy while supporting policies that support people. Together, we can shape a South Dakota that works for everyone. And perhaps one day, those who left may return home.
